Utility Rebates Save Money
Why is Energy Efficiency so Important in Indoor Cultivation?
Indoor Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) must be optimized to deliver enhanced yields and consistent quality – resulting in product-driven profit potential. Equally important, energy use from your two most expensive capital costs – HVACD and lighting systems – can represent between 30% to 60% of your facility’s ongoing operating expenses – resulting in energy efficiency profit potential. We can help you design and evaluate high-performance HVACD and lighting systems that can reduce operating costs compared to traditional systems. Today, there are more options for sophisticated HVACD and lighting which, in most cases, can be customized for your specific facility’s needs.
What is the DLC Qualified Products List?
The LED lighting products that we represent are included on the Design Lights Consortium (DLC) Qualified Products List (QPL) for horticultural lighting, making them eligible for utility rebates that in some cases can be as high as 100% of the product cost. The DLC® is a non-profit organization whose mission is to achieve energy optimization by enabling controllability with a focus on quality, people, and the environment.
Illinois was the first state that required cultivators to use LED fixtures that are on the DLC QPL list. Others are expected to follow including California, which requires all current growers to switch to LEDs by 2022. New state regulations are expected to follow this standard including Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Massachusetts already requires no more than 36W per square foot of plant canopy – so LEDs are the only option.
How does RSX assist you with Utility Rebates?
Through the design-build process, RSX strives to identify energy-savings opportunities that can reduce up-front costs through qualifying utility rebates and ongoing operating cost savings. RSX also works with a network of qualified energy professionals that can perform detailed energy audits of your existing facilities and can help you process and optimize power availability, energy consumption and utility rebates.
